Pandora di BAQUNIN expands north: new monitoring sites across Italy!
One of the Pandora instruments has been relocated to a new site at the Department of the Bicocca University of Milan (Mi-Bi), while a new one has just been installed in Aosta, hosted by the regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA Val d’Aosta, VdA). And that’s not all: in the coming weeks, a third instrument will be activated at the CNR-ISAC site in San Pietro Capofiume (SPC), near Bologna. These strategic locations will provide valuable data to study air pollution in the Po Valley, one of the most polluted areas in Italy, as clearly visible in satellite imagery. The Sentinel-4 image shows high concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) across the region and also marks the locations of the new monitoring sites. The high concentration of pollutants in this region doesn’t just affect local air quality, it also influences atmospheric conditions in surrounding areas, contributing to broader environmental and health challenges. By monitoring these sites, researchers will gain deeper insights into how pollution spreads and evolves across regional boundaries.
